The Abattoir itself provides a slaughtering and processing service for Cattle, Pigs and Sheep passed with QMS (Quality Meats Scotland) standards which is available to Farmers, Butchers, and Smallholdings etc. We have highly trained slaughter men who all hold a certificate of competence from FSS (Food Standards Scotland).
Our lairage facilities are excellent with suitable pens which are freshly bedded every day with fresh drinking water in order to keep animals individually or in social groups before being processed or even overnight if that is more convenient for our customers. Animal Welfare is at the centre of what we do here at Lockerbie Abattoir taking great care in the handling of livestock in a peaceful and caring environment.
We are certified for the processing and delivering of organic livestock.
We provide a service for cattle which are OTM (over thirty month) were the backbone of the carcase has to be removed before leaving the premises. This should be stated at the time of booking to ensure you are kept updated with any new or further regulations.
Border Meats also offer a chilled meat delivery service for anyone within range right to our customer’s front door, keeping your meat at a chilled ambient temperature throughout the whole process.
